Being Written Into the Record
This week, I found myself on the receiving end of something rare: a detailed, third-party account of my life’s work, and of the living, breathing space that is NOMAD. The article, published as part of MHM Montréal’s “70 lieux de musique” initiative, is, to my surprise, the most complete written record of NOMAD’s evolution to date.
From the early days of ARTJAM to the creation of NOMADlive.TV and NOMADslow.tv, and the birth of ANTENNAE, the article tells a story that somehow captures the arc of the last 15 years in a way I haven’t myself. Even our battles with the city over bogus noise complaints, and the community that rose up in support, are there, preserved in print.
Reading it was strange. Moving. Affirming.
Not because of ego, but because the work, all the work, is still happening.
We’re pushing further, ever deeper, knowing ourselves better with each passing moon. Still bridging cinema, sound, sculpture, and community into something that is alive, and LIVE. Ever closer to the Forever NOW.
This article reminded me that while NOMAD has always been about the NOW, it’s also always been about making the most of our time here on Earth, eternal nomads, ever witnessing and capturing the beauty that comes our way every day. In doing so, we've not only archived our experiences, but we've become a part of that history. We are living our myth.
This month marks the 10th anniversary of ARTJAM. Join us in celebrating this legendary gathering of art, music, and expression, on November 29th, at NOMAD | 129 Van Horne!
This article arrives as a kind of cosmic bookmark between chapters.
I invite you to read it as a portrait of a place and a process that continues to unfold:
